Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time of year because we get to express our gratitude and focus on appreciating what we already have. I’m thankful for the big things, like family, friends, a home, and food on our table, but I also try to remember to be grateful for the small things in life that make me happy.
Today, I wanted to share a few of those things, specifically the homemaking tools and gadgets that bring a smile to my face every time I use them. Some because they make my life as a homemaker so much easier, and some because they are just cool.
It’s my stuff in the pictures, but there are Amazon-affiliated links below each if you want to learn more or get something like it for yourself or another homemaker in your life.
My Black & Decker Orbital Sander is the very first power tool I ever bought, and I have loved using it. It evens out new wood, smooths down rough surfaces, and adds texture when things need to be painted. I pushed my 20 year-old little sander to the limit refinishing our deck last weekend, and it did beautifully.
We have several of these Mini Dust Pan and Brush Sets because they are so useful. They clean up dry messes from the garage to the craft closet to the kitchen. And best of all, my kids love cleaning with them.
It’s amazing how many things around our house have little screws. Anytime something needs to be fixed, or batteries need to be replaced, chances are I’m going to need my Precision Screwdriver and Pliers Set. The pliers have also been great for making and fixing jewelry.
I don’t think I could cut a straight line to save my life, so whenever I need to cut paper, I pull out my Fiskars Paper Trimmer. And Scotch Super 77 is the best spray adhesive ever. I recently tried to go cheaper and tried a few other, even some brand names like Elmers, but nothing else is as easy or sticks as well at Super 77. You just spray the paper, stick it on whatever you want, and it is stuck there until the end of time.
I’ve said this before, but an iron is my most important sewing tool. Ironing each seam after it’s sewn makes a garment look handmade instead of homemade. I especially love the weight and heft of my Black & Decker Classic Iron. I always get beautiful, crisp seams. I use it occasionally to iron clothes too.
I have to admit, I married into having this Stanley Screw Driver and Ratcheting Socket Set, but it has become invaluable. It is our go-to screwdriver. Instead of searching for the right screw driver (why is there philips and straight), this is an all-in-one set. We use the ratcheting sockets for bolts, tightening tools, and working on the car.
We are new at taking care of a wood floor, so when we found out about dust mops, it was a total game changer. Our dust mop sweeps up everything quickly and effectively without scratching the floor or getting it wet. The only challenge is where to store it.
I don’t usually post about food items, but I really love my EuroCuisine Yogurt Maker. We eat a lot of yogurt, so buying milk to make yogurt is much more cost-effective than buying even a tub of yogurt. And we flavor it with everything from fresh berries to jam to peanut butter to cake mix.
I think I might do a whole post on Wood Hangers because these organizing tools are brilliant. They look nice and keep my clothes looking nice.
I have so many sewing tools that make me happy, but today I’m just going to share a couple. My OLFA Rotary Cutter and Self-Healing Cutting Mat make measuring and cutting so much easier. I use them to cut paper too and, recently, aluminum foil. I also love my little Measuring Gauge. I got it from Fabrics.com, and I couldn’t imagine sewing hems without it.
So these are my top 10, okay, actually 12, homemaking tools. I am so grateful for each one because they help me to take care of my family and make my home a beautiful place. What would you add to this list? What are some tools and gadgets that make your homemaking life better? Please leave a comment below and let us know!
